Another book to be on the lookout for...

Edited to add: The book has been found! One of Doug's readers correctly identified it as Herbert D. Kastle's Reassembled Man (or at least the second half of the description was identified as such). I'm going to go ahead and remove this post from the link in the side bar. The Harlequin's identity is still unknown so lend a hand if you can.

This one is from Doug:

Pub date, 1970s. Science Fiction. A guy wakes up one day to find himself in a 12-year-old body -- his own, about thirty years ago. Somehow, he's living out the fantasy of being a kid again "with all I know now." He turns the tables on his flirtatious cousin who used to make his life hell, and he rakes in the dough on horseraces (conveniently, he remembers some key race results). The mob gets wind of his success and wants to know how he does it. Eventually, he gets gunned down by the mob.He wakes up on a space ship. Aliens have granted him three wishes, and he just screwed up his first wish. The next two-thirds of the book concern his other wishes. In one, he's back in his 40-something-year-old body, but with superhuman strength and amazing sexual powers. Trouble is, his physiology is different, so alcohol makes him violently ill. Things end badly after he throws up on an important business client.

If you know this book (or know someone who does) please follow the link and let him know.

I'm not sure Reassembled Man is the right book, but it sounded suspiciously close, so I bought it online. I'll let you know.

The Reassembled Man was a science fiction novel i read over halloween in 1974. It is about a man who encounters aliens while on a walk following his care breaking down. They ask him to be a monitor for them of earth and agree to take him apart and make him better. He has been weak and ineffectual all his life and agrees. His new body looks the same but is far stronger and he revisits his life and puts a few people in their place. In the end the aliens come back and thank him and make like before but just enough better to yield happiness. The very much improved body had some draw backs and he was hurting people and getting out of control. Any one read this book?
